Using the Behringer Xenyx x1222USB Mixer to record to a DAW

‎02-20-201812:50 PM
Before I consider buying a Behringer x1222, I did some research about it and a lot of people said that the USB-B output only allowed you to access the left and right main channels, not the individual channels. I want to be able to record drums, vocals, and guitar all through this Mixer so I definitely need access to each channel.
For an example, let’s say I use Reaper for a DAW. I want to be able to have all 12 channels as individual channel strips in Reaper, not a L/R main. Is it true that you can access each individual channel? If so, this mixer would be most ideal. Thanks

Hi Chase, welcome to the forum!
To answer your question - you will be able to record all your audio inputs using the X1222USB Mixer, but as you pointed out it will indeed only be a summed Stereo audio file instead of individual recorded tracks for each input. None of the XENYX Mixers have the ability to record individual tracks like you are asking, but a number of our UMC/FCA audio interface products do, as do our Digital Mixer solutions like X AIR and X32. Your application would be better suited with one of those products instead.
Hope that helps, and please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi, don't mean to butt in, but:
The Xenyx ufx1204 and ufx1604 record all of their 16 individual tracks via either firewire or USB 2.0 and do so quite nicely. As a bonus, they can also be used without a computer to record 16 tracks directly to a USB drive (with some limitations). They do, however cost more than some of the other Xenyx products..

I owned a ufx1204 for several years and got quite good results with it and various macbook pro notebooks using both usb and firewire. I liked it a lot.

You are absolutely right Mario. I completely forgot about the UFX series of mixers which do use XENYX Mic preamps, but those are the only two XENYX mixers that will be able to record multi-track audio files. All other XENYX mixers will record a stereo feed from the MAIN LR Outputs.

I understand through this thread that the Xenyx 1222USB Interface is only capable of bringing together its 16 channels into one stereo channel digital to record into the DAW thus not allowing me to create multiple seperate tracks using the Mixing Board into the Computer. Is there a way to route it through an additional audio interface to achieve full functionality of these channels for Multitrack recording potential? I'm looking to record a band but with the ability to edit and alter the different instruments individually AFTER they have been recorded.
Thank you for your help

Hi Benjamin,
Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately what you are asking is not going to be easily achieved using the X1222 mixers, as you mentioned multitrack recording of individual tracks isn't going to be possible with that mixer. You could use a separate interface but doing so would kind of negate the need to use your XENYX X1222 Mixer for recording purposes.
As alternative options, you could either use a dedicated multi channel audio interface or another mixer that contains a built-in multitrack recording interface (like X AIR XR18 for example) as those have the ability to multi-track record individual channels to your DAW. Hope that helps answer your question.

  • XENYX X1222USB Premium 16-Input 2/2-Bus Mixer with built in USB/Audio Interface

The XENYX X1222USB - 16-Input USB Audio Mixer with Effects from Behringer is a 16-input audio mixer with an integrated USB computer audio interface. It enables you to mix together and shape the sound of multiple audio signals, and route the audio to several outputs. Special attention has been paid to the quality of the X1222USB's 6 microphone preamps, 'British' style EQ, and 4 easy-to-use one-knob compressors.

Mediafire download games. The X1222USB provides six mono channels and up to four stereo channels, making it ideal for smaller and medium sized audio tasks. There are two aux sends on every channel (which enable you to route individual channels to stage monitors or external effects), and two stereo aux returns. The built-in USB interface allows for a bi-directional transfer of the raw (non-fader or EQ) audio and effects to and from your computer.

The built-in 24-bit dual engine effects processor features 16 presets that include, reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, pitch shifter, and multi-effects. You can edit the parameters of every preset, and a tap tempo button is included to sync time-based effects. The 4 built-in compressors are designed to simplify the process of controlling dynamics in your mix. With a single knob you can dial in the amount of compression you need for any given sound. Individual compressors are a feature rarely seen in mixing boards in this price range. The 6 XENYX preamps offer 130 dB of dynamic range, and the 3-band 'British' style EQs really allow you to create a fine-tuned mix. The XENYX X1222USB is well-suited for recording studios, video editing suites, live sound mixing, podcasting, and more.
